Education:
ED1: Graduation with a science degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in physical science (i.e. biology, chemistry, environmental engineering, geology or geographical studies) or in urban and environmental planning, environmental management, or in another study relevant to the position being staffed.
Experience:
EX1: Recent and valuable experience* in the planning and delivery of environmental projects or programs in one or more environmental areas**.
Ex2: Recent and valuable experience* in interpreting environmental requirements which may include Federal, Provincial or Municipal regulations, policies, guidelines or standards.
EX3: Recent and valuable experience* providing advice and recommendations based on environmental requirements.
EX4: Experience in the analysis and interpretation of environmental data or reports in one or more of the environmental areas**.
EX5: Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to develop and deliver environmental programs or projects.
* Recent and valuable experience refers to a minimum of 2 years of experience gained over the past 5 years.
** Environmental areas may include: Environmental Assessment, Range and Training Area Management, Natural Resource Management, Hazardous Materials Management, Effluent Management, Contaminated Sites Management, Storage Tank Management, Water Management, Solid Waste Management, Halocarbon Management, Climate Change Management, Environmental Auditing and Land Management.
Education:
AED1: Master’s Degree in a field relevant to the position to be staffed.
Occupational Certification:
AED2: Project Management Certification such as PMI Certification or Prince2 or equivalent
AED2: Professional Biologist or Qualified Environmental Professional certification by a Province of Canada
Experience:
AEX1: Experience developing and implementing policies, directives or procedures related to one or more of the environmental areas**.
AEX2: Experience working on the delivery of environmental programs or projects for the Federal Government.
AEX3: Experience in project management in the environmental field (e.g. scope development, terms of reference preparation, schedule development, contract management, budget tracking and control, work team management, and/or acceptance of deliverables).
AEX4: Experience conducting environmental site assessments and writing related reports.
AEX5: Experience with geographic information systems (GIS).
AEX6: Experience in environmental management systems.
AEX7: Experience in coordinating and/or participating in Aboriginal consultation.
AEX8: Experience working with Indigenous peoples, Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge, environmental non-government organizations or other levels of government.
AEX9: Experience conducting studies, analyzing data and providing recommendations on industrial hygiene issues. More specifically, assessing the risk in industrial hygiene, including air quality, noise assessment and management of asbestos, mould, lead and hazardous substances. This involves the following steps: characterization, risk assessment, management plan, plans and specifications, and work supervision.
AEX10: Experience working on projects or initiatives that contribute to the management or conservation of aquatic or terrestrial habitat or aquatic or terrestrial species.

AK3: Knowledge of the various stages of contaminated site assessment and remediation and the Federal Approach to Contaminated Sites (Contaminated Sites Management Working Group, 1999).

Operational Requirements:
Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
Willingness and ability to undertake limited travel, including sites by vehicle, site visits by charter aircraft and site visits to DND administered lands, ships or submarines.
Reliability Status security clearance
Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
Willingness and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
