Duties

In a nutshell, as a Programmer Analyst at the Public Service Commission, you are responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance and improvement of software. You will be encouraged to innovate and propose improvements to new and existing solutions, and you will be responsible for promoting and adhering to the Agile and 12 Factor App methodologies. You will collaborate with other designers and developers and continuously learn.

You will work on things like:
• Participating in the development of the Government of Canada recruitment solution including assessment tools;
• Promote the 12 Factor App and Agile methodology;
• Participate in the cloud computing transition of the PSC;
• Investigating the use of Open source software (OSS) to replace legacy solutions.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff at least one position on an indeterminate basis in Gatineau. A pool of qualified candidates will be created to fill future vacancies within the Public Service Commission in our Gatineau and Halifax offices. Other government departments may use the pool upon the PSC's approval.

ED1: Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

EX1: Significant* experience developing applications with one of the following programming languages: Java, C#, or Python

*Significant is defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of those duties for a period of approximately one year.

EX2: Experience with relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL)

EX3: Experience working in one of the following fields: Web application development, micro-service development or cloud-based solution development

EX4: Experience in HTML/CSS, JavaScript or ReactJS

AEX3: Experience designing cloud-based solutions using a cloud platform such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure

AEX4: Experience with version control and automated build tools
