Work environment

The RCMP National Operations Centre (NOC) serves as the “nerve centre” of RCMP communications. It is an impressive Top Secret environment that is equipped with classified and unclassified telephone and informatics networks, where employees work in teams to help ensure the safety of Canadians.

The work performed by the employees at the National Operations Centre consists of monitoring systems and coordinating the dissemination of classified information from government departments; the distribution of situational updates to senior management, other police forces, and government agencies. Employees also perform a variety of after hours support for law enforcement agencies and RCMP units requiring various checks on police databases; and administrative functions internally and to various agencies in support of the security operations.

The NOC is currently located at 1200 Vanier Parkway in Ottawa, but will be moving to 73 Leikin Drive in the near future.

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates for the training program.

Upon initial appointment as a Telecommunications Operator Trainee, continued employment is conditional upon successful completion of classroom training, field coaching, simulation exams and proficiency evaluations for call-taking and dispatching.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.
