The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research in flood mapping, specifically in developing a method to generate flood depth maps from earth observation datasets. The proposed research topic involves (i) exploring and evaluating the capacity of existing flood depth estimation tools (e.g.: FwDET and RAPIDE) and (ii) developing a new, novel method that overcomes the limitations of these existing tools.
The successful candidate should have a good work ethic, a strong sense of responsibilities, ability to work in team environment.
The analysis and research work will be conducted at the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics, University of Guelph. Occasional visits to the Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation in Ottawa, or participation in fieldwork, may be required.
Student will be hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) with the purpose to accomplish research and complete a thesis or dissertation. Duration of the RAP will depend on academic level. Extensions may be possible.

• Bachelor's degree (for Masters proposal)
• Currently enrolled (or eligible to enroll) in a graduate program at University of Guelph, in the Geography, Environment & Geomatics department
• Experience in hydro network modelling and mapping using LiDAR-derived DEMs.
• Experience in analyzing and understanding geospatial data, including optical and/or SAR remote sensing datasets.
• Experience in conducting literature reviews and summarizing information.
• Experience in writing research reports and making scientific presentations.
