Duties

Oil Sands (Energy Innovation Program/Program of Energy Research and Development)

The duties and responsibilities of this study is to explore Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry approaches for Characterization of naphthenic acid fraction compounds in wetlands. Examine the effects of inorganic salts; pH, dissolved organic matter and metals on the extraction efficiency and detection of organic components wetland waters. Phytotoxicity studies will build on earlier work using hydroponic systems and constructed wetland treatment systems conducted by the collaborators. The work is expected to form part of the PhD studies of the successful candidate in collaboration with Professor Dena McMartin, University of Saskatchewan.

The work will be conducted as part of the PhD research of the successful candidate.

Work environment

The work environment is the organic mass spectrometry laboratories located at the National Hydrology Research Centre and support priority research on oil sands naphthenic acids at Environment and Climate Change Canada.
