The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position in the NCR within the Northern Contaminated Sites Program/Northern Abandoned Mines Reclamation Program, within the Northern Affairs Sector of CIRNAC. CIRNAC works closely with territorial governments, Indigenous partners and other stakeholders to remediate contaminated sites and abandoned mines in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The position is to work with the Quality Assurance and Compliance team as an Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) officer to coordinate EHS activities across the program, including projects and programs’ EHS audits.
A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) or Indigenous Services Canada (ISC). These positions could be located in various locations with various linguistic profiles (English essential, Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC) or requirements as well as tenures (term, indeterminate, assignment, secondment, acting and deployment) or the security clearance (reliability or secret), which may vary according to the position being staffed.
The pool may also be used to staff positions in other federal departments.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in environmental science, environmental engineering, physics, geology, chemistry, or some other science or applied science relevant to the position.
Note:
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the design and implementation of environment , health and safety (EHS) programs.
Experience in environment, health and safety (EHS) hazard identification, assessments, worksite inspections, incident investigations, or project audits.
Experience participating in multidisciplinary working groups or meetings involving various internal and/or external stakeholders.
Experience analyzing, interpreting and reporting environment, health and safety (EHS) data and making recommendations to management.
Experience in delivering presentations, training or awareness sessions to employees, management, peers, contractors or other stakeholders.
ASSET EDUCATION:
Successful completion of a post-secondary certification program in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional or equivalency.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience with contaminated sites remediation projects.
Experience working with Indigenous groups and/or northern communities.
Experience with construction safety.
Experience in the development of contracting documents, for example statements of work, proposals, etc.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of federal legislation and regulations related to environment, health and safety (EHS) and their application to real property programs and projects.
Knowledge of key elements of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System or an Environmental Management System or an Environment, Health and Safety Management System.
Knowledge of environmental risks and occupational health and safety risks associated with contaminated sites remediation projects in a northern climate.
