Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates that can be used to staff similar positions within the organization.

**Important: Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard are actively working on a flexible, phased approach for the safe return of employees to their usual workspaces. Organizational needs may require that duties be performed on site where safe procedures and operations have been established.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Secondary school diploma (high school) or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

Possession of valid Inter-Provincial (Real Seal) Electrical License.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience installing and maintaining electrical systems and equipment (e.g. 1 and 3 phase generators, wiring, installing emt and pvc conduit, lighting, motors, controls, etc.)

Experience installing and maintaining power systems including power distribution equipment, switch gear, renewal power systems (e.g. wind and solar) and DC Equipment (i.e. battery installation).

Experience working in an operational site, where multi-trades are working simultaneously, within the last 12 months.

Experience in field/remote site operations.

Information on language requirements

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of employees' rights and responsibilities under Canada Labour Code Part II.
Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment that apply at a work site.
Knowledge of Personal Protective equipment used in an industrial operations environment.

Showing initiative and being action-oriented;
Working effectively with others.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to diagnose and complete effective repairs to electrical installations and equipment.
Ability to use computer software such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer or equivalent.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Valid Provincial Class 5 Driver’s License.
Requirement to climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m.
Requirement to travel for extended periods of time to remote sites via trucks, boats, UTVs and aircraft.
Requirement to work weekends/overtime and travel on short notice.
Requirement to access remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extreme environmental conditions.
