This process will be used to staff positions at the EN-ENG-03, EN-ENG-04 and EN-ENG-05 levels.
You will be required to show how you demonstrate the essential qualifications in answering screening questions in your application.
You will be required to complete screening questions only for the positions you are interested in applying for (EN-ENG-03, EN-ENG-04, and/or EN-ENG-05).
Each criteria on this poster states which position it is applicable for. Keep this in mind when noting which screening questions you’d like to answer (for example, if you are only interested in applying to the EN-ENG-03, only answer screening questions that are related to the qualifications for the EN-ENG-03).
When you are answering the screening questions, it is not sufficient to only state that the qualifications are met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. Rather, you must clearly demonstrate how, when and where the qualification was met, through descriptive examples.
Failure to provide the above information in the format required may result in your application being rejected from the process.

The intent of this process is to create a pool of qualified candidates that may be used to fill these and similar positions on an indeterminate (permanent), term (temporary), acting or an assignment basis at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada in St. John’s, NL.

ED1 (For all levels, EN-ENG-03, 04 and 05): Graduation with a degree from a recognized University in mechanical, civil, electrical, geological, industrial or environmental engineering.
OC1 (For all levels, EN-ENG-03, 04 and 05): Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with a specialization in mechanical, civil, electrical, geological, industrial or environmental engineering
EX1 (For all levels, EN-ENG-03, 04 and 05): Considerable* experience in the field of engineering (e.g. as applied to buildings, light towers, marine structures, roads or power systems) and/or related civil engineering projects.
*Considerable is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would be acquired with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience following graduation in mechanical, civil, electrical, geological, industrial or environmental engineering
EX2 (For all levels, EN-ENG-03, 04 and 05): Experience in managing financial resources.
EX3 (For all levels, EN-ENG-03, 04 and 05): Experience in Project Management*.
*Project Management is defined as taking a project through the four life cycle phases from initiation to closeout.
EX4 (For EN-ENG-04 and 05): Experience in managing staff and making decisions in relation to human resources and staffing.
EX5 (For EN-ENG-05): Experience in providing advice, guidance and interpretation on a wide range of engineering and technical issues to senior management or clients.

Operational Requirements
Work overtime often on short notice, as required.

Travel using various modes of transportation including but not limited to: automobile, boat, plane, helicopter, snowmobile and/or all-terrain vehicle ATV in order to access remote sites throughout the Newfoundland and Labrador Region, as required.
Requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when participating in site visits throughout the Newfoundland and Labrador Region, as required.

EN-ENG-04 - $102,596 - $119,656 per year.
EN-ENG-05 - $117,523 - $137,382 per year.
