Duties

Are you ready to lead a large, diverse and highly technical team of aeronautical product engineering and flight test specialists and supporting positions? Are you looking to work in a fast paced environment that’s highly demand driven, subject to varying and often competing activity within the aerospace industry, as well as to sudden changes in priorities when events in worldwide aviation implicate products either certified directly by Transport Canada or those imported into Canada and in use by Canadian aircraft operators? Do you want to contribute directly to maintain Canada’s strong reputation as being a reliable and technically competent aviation safety authority, thus supporting Canada’s role in various Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreements that Canada holds with other countries? Do you want to establish and maintain strong and trusting relationships with the leaders of Canada’s major aeronautical design organizations? Do you know how to lead a large team in maintaining a strong safety standard as well as contributing directly to the viability of Canada’s aerospace industry in the global market? Reporting to the Director General, Civil Aviation, the Director of National Aircraft Certification is accountable for:

• Leading a national team, including a Headquarters component and five (5) Regional Offices carrying out the design approval and continuing airworthiness activities for aeronautical products designed in Canada, as well as imported aeronautical products
• Establishing and maintaining the strategic direction of the National Aircraft Certification program
• Representing Canada as the operational leader of the Canadian aeronautical certification program, alongside counterparts from other major jurisdictions, including but not limited to FAA (US), EASA (Europe), ANAC (Brazil), CAAC (China)
• Being the Enterprise Manager within Transport Canada for major Canadian aerospace design and manufacturing organizations, including Bombardier Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Bell Helicopter Textron Canada, CMC Electronics, Diamond Aircraft of Canada and others
• The conduct of 7 reporting Chiefs and their respective Divisions:
o Project Management
o Regional Engineering
o HQ Engineering
o Flight Test
o Continuing Airworthiness
o Delegations, Surveillance and Quality Management Systems
o Business Management

The results of this process will be used to fill on an indeterminate basis the position of Director, National Aircraft Certification, Civil Aviation.

A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff identical or similar EX-02 positions at Transport Canada.
