Duties

Mainframe and Bulk Print directorate is responsible for the overall maintenance and support of mainframes for the Government of Canada. Our team provides day-to-day infrastructure support of IBM and Unisys Mainframes for a variety of clients. Our team members perform a variety of duties, such as installing software, maintaining resource access lists, configuring mainframe connectivity and monitoring system performance.

Shared Services Canada is modernizing how the Government of Canada manages its information technology (IT) infrastructure. The Department is mandated to deliver email, data centre and telecommunication services, including videoconferencing and Wi-Fi, to partner organizations.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Successful completion of two years of an acceptable postsecondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Notes:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must
be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.

2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.

3. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

1. Recent* and significant** experience in one or more of the following system life cycle phases: planning and design*** phase; building and deployment**** phase; operating and maintenance***** phase. Please indicate which of the following areas you have obtained experience:
a. Mainframe Automation (i.e. Control-M, Wily, Strobe, Omegamon or OPCON)
b. Mainframe storage products such as but not limited to : z/OS DFSMS, FDR, DFDSS, TDMF, Tape management systems, Virtual Tape Systems, and BLLIB
c. Mainframe Networks (i.e. TCPIP, VTAM or z/OS IP stacks)
d. Mainframe Monitoring tools such as Operations Sentinel
e. Mainframe Security solutions (i.e. RACF, TSS, ACF2 or LOCUM)
f. Mainframe O/S (i.e. z/OS, z/VM, z/Linux or MCP)
g. JCL (Job Control Language) or WFL (Work Flow Language)
h. Mainframe Messaging and Transaction (i.e. Websphere, CICS, MQ or COMS)
i. Mainframe Capacity and Performance management such as RG Solutions or SMFII
j. Mainframe Print product support utilities (i.e. ARF, SMR/JMR, CA-VIEW, or similar)
k. Mainframe scheduling products such as CA-7 or TWS – Tivoli Workload Scheduler
l. Mainframe Databases (i.e. DB2, IDMS, DMSII)
m. Mainframe Software Configuration Management tools (i.e. CA ENDEVOR, CA HARVEST or similar).
n. Mainframe Change Management tools (i.e. SMART, BMC Remedy, Infoman or similar).
o. Mainframe Performance and Capacity Monitoring tools (i.e. Broadcom MICS, IBM IZDS, SAS and Cognos or similar).

Definitions:
* Recent is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.
** Significant is defined as an experience normally associated with the performance of those duties on a regular basis for a period of three (3) or more years.
*** The planning and designing phase is defined as gathering and analyzing business requirements, and translating them into technical requirements and contributing to the development of high-level and detailed designs.
**** The building and deploying phase is defined as installing, configuring, integrating, testing and troubleshooting solutions or services; and onboarding clients
***** The operating and maintaining phase is defined as fulfilling service requests; planning and implementing changes to services; prioritizing, categorizing, investigating, tracking and resolving incidents.

2. Experience in liaising with external partners* or clients** and internal or external stakeholders*** to achieve business outcomes.

Definitions:
* External partner is defined as an entity or group of individuals outside of your organization.
** Client is defined as a user of the systems or software you support.
*** Stakeholder is defined as to any individual or entity who participates or contributes to the achievement of a task or goal.

3. Experience in providing advice or recommendations to management regarding the design, procurement, implementation or operation of IM/IT infrastructure services.
