Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff several indeterminate positions.

A pool of completely qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of National Defence in National Capital Region, whose duration, language proficiencies and security profiles could vary depending on the position being staffed.

EXPERIENCE

E1. *Significant and recent experience in the physical or chemical characterization of materials.

For the EG-05 position:

* Significant and recent experience is defined by experience whose depth and breadth are associated with the recent performance of those duties on a regular basis for at least 5 years in the last 10 years.

For the EG-06 position:

* Significant and recent experience is defined by experience whose depth and breadth are associated with the recent performance of those duties on a regular basis for at least 8 years in the last 15 years.

E2. *Significant and recent experience in test methods, product specifications and technical procedures.

For the EG-05 position:

* Significant and recent experience is defined by experience whose depth and breadth are associated with the recent performance of those duties on a regular basis for at least 5 years in the last 10 years.

For the EG-06 position:

* Significant and recent experience is defined by experience whose depth and breadth are associated with the recent performance of those duties on a regular basis for at least 8 years in the last 15 years.

E3. Experience with test sample and standards preparation.

E4. Experience in the set-up, operation and acquisition of data of modern analytical chemistry instrumentation or specialised physical test equipment.

EXPERIENCE

AE1. Experience in the physical or chemical characterisation of petroleum products & related systems

AE2. Experience in the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment such as optical emission spectrophotometers (ex. ICP-OES, Spark-OES, GD-OES) or mass spectrometers (ex. ICP-MS, GC-MS, HPLC-MS, TOF-MS) or analytical X-Ray (ex. XRD, XRF)

AE3. Experience in the chemical and physical characterization of inorganic or specialty chemicals.

AE4. Experience in the chemical and physical characterization of polymeric materials (elastomers, plastics, and/or textiles).

AE5. Experience in the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment such as smoke density chamber, flame spread apparatus, or cone calorimeter.

KNOWLEDGE

AK1. Knowledge of the characteristics of petroleum products & related systems.
AK2. Knowledge of polymers or textiles products
AK3: Knowledge of laboratory quality systems or test & evaluation standards
AK4. Knowledge of the flammability characterization of polymeric materials and of the associated test methods.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Willingness to travel from time to time;
Willingness to work overtime and on weekends from time to time.
