This process will be used to fill 1 SE-RES position on an indeterminate basis.
A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada (with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements (various conditions of employment and for various locations.

A covering letter in 3,500 words (maximum) "Candidates must clearly demonstrate IN THEIR COVER LETTER how they meet ESSENTIAL AND ASSET education and experience factors listed in the Merit Criteria. Candidates must use the education/experience factors as a header and write one or two paragraphs for each, demonstrating how they meet them and citing concrete examples. Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of earth sciences in one of the specializations* listed below or other specialization related to the duties of the position, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification. Note:
1. The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master's or bachelor's degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.
Productivity/Recognition
Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community in the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:
• Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
• Operational research and scientific analysis; and,
• Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.
EEx1: Experience in developing, coordinating, supervising, and conducting research.
EEx2: Experience in data visualization, processing of multiple types of geochemical and other types of geoscience data, applying univariate and multivariate statistics, analysis and interpretation of regional or local-scale geochemical studies.
EEx3: Experience in using Geographic Information Systems and spatial data analysis tools.
EEx4: Experience writing scientific journal publications.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
AEx1: Experience with multiple knowledge systems bridging geoscience and Indigenous and traditional knowledge.
AEx2: Experience in interpreting data from, and preparing written reports on, regional- or local-scale geochemical surveys.
AEx3: Experience in the use of knowledge and data driven statistical integration models (Fuzzy Logic, Weights of Evidence, Random Forest) for providing exploration geochemical (lithologic and/or surficial) data layers for input into integrated models for mineral potential mapping.
AEx4: Significant* work experience in the field of advanced numerical analysis and interpretation of regional surficial and/or lithologic exploration geochemical data.
* Significant is defined as approximately 3 years of experience within the last 6 years.
AK1: Knowledge of Python, R, MATLAB, or other high-level programing languages.
AK2: Knowledge of GIS processing procedures/integration modelling tools.
