The Radio Systems Project Manager manages radio system engineering projects throughout its System Development Life Cycle including business case development and investment options analysis, radio system engineering, design, implementation, test and maintenance transition, as well as provides technical and procurement support to RCMP Divisional radio program(s).
The Radio Systems Project Manager manages financial budgets throughout their lifecycle including establishing budgets, spending, forecasting and closing out.
The Radio Systems Project Manager manages human resources by supervising junior Radio Engineering Specialists (ENG-03 level) and manages the engineering team performance.
The Radio Systems Project Manager provides technical advises to the National Radio Service management team and the Divisional radio team.
This position is part of the RCMP's National Radio Services team and is responsible for organizing and managing technical projects to maintain or enhance RCMP radio systems across Canada.
The National Radio Services team provides our police officers with an important lifeline, a radio communication infrastructure. The core of our mandate is to maintain and enhance the RCMP radio systems across Canada. Being part of our team of at least 30 engineers, you may conduct or supervise numerous tasks:
- Design and test radio systems and coverage
- Study and research new digital communication technologies
- Develop radio communication policies, directives, guidelines and standards
- Write technical documents
- Manage multiple radio projects
- Supervise a team of engineers
- Manage and forecast a financial budget
The position is located at 1200 Vanier Parkway, Ottawa (Ontario). However, please note that full-time remote work is the temporary working arrangement in light of the challenges presented by the COVID-19. Please note that employees will be periodically required to physically go in to the office.
The immediate need is to staff one (1) position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of English essential and an RCMP Top Secret security clearance.
A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
• **Significant experience in evaluating, analyzing and solving complex engineering or operations problems and in making recommendations.
• **Significant experience in multiple engineering projects in least two of the following fields:
- Two-way land mobile radio systems;
- Wireless broadband telecommunication systems (4G or 5G);
- Satellite network systems;
- Cloud related IT systems;
- Broadband wireless microwave network.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.
Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
