Education:
ED1: Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position.

PRODUCTIVITY AND RECOGNITION:
Productivity or recognition is required for all positions in the Research Scientist sub-group (SE-RES) (Revised October 1, 1999).

Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:

•Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
•Operational research and scientific analysis;
•Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1: *Significant recent* experience conducting scientific research in remote sensing applications to terrestrial ecosystems.
EX2: Experience in extracting land surface information from remotely sensed data.
EX3: Experience developing scripts or computer programs to process geospatial data.
EX4: Experience in writing and publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers in the field of remote sensing (first author of at least 3 manuscripts).
EX5: Experience planning, coordinating and carrying out fieldwork to support the validation of remote sensing products.
EX6: Experience working in a collaborative research environment with research partners from various organizations (e.g. different levels of government, academia, etc).

*Significant refers to at least 2 years beyond doctoral studies.
*Recent refers to within the last 3 years.

Asset Experience:
A/Ex1: Experience carrying out research pertaining to habitat mapping, conservation, ecosystem monitoring or species at risk.
A/Ex2: Experience carrying out regional or national scale mapping.
A/Ex3: Experience in processing and analyzing optical time series data for long-term trend analysis.
A/Ex4: Experience programming with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning algorithms.
A/Ex5: Experience in processing and analyzing synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data including Radarsat-2 and RCM.
A/Ex6: Experience mapping and monitoring wetland ecosystems using remote sensing.
A/Ex7: Experience mapping and monitoring arctic vegetation using remote sensing.
A/Ex8: Experience mapping and monitoring forested ecosystems in Canada.
A/Ex9: Experience working with high performance computing environments or cloud computing environments.
A/Ex10: Experience with object based image analysis.
A/Ex11: Experience designing sample-based monitoring programs.
