19 Wing Comox is located at Canadian Forces Base Comox on Vancouver Island. Its Aurora crews keep watch over the Pacific Ocean looking for illegal fishing, migration, drugs and pollution in addition to foreign submarines. With CC-115 Buffalo Aircraft and CH-149 Cormorant Helicopters, they also carry out search and rescue operations in the busiest region in Canada, stretching from the B.C.-Washington border to the Arctic, and from the Rocky Mountains to 1,200 km out into the Pacific Ocean.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent is to hire a term with the potential opportunity for succession planning.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Successful completion of post-secondary, diploma or certificate in the Occupational Health & Safety field.

Or

Successful completion of secondary school and an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in the Occupational Health & Safety field.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1:Experience conducting Health and Safety inspections, investigations, surveys and/or audits.
EX 2:Experience writing formal correspondence such as briefing notes, reports, policy or procedures
EX3:Experience in conducting risk assessments, hazard analysis and developing safe work practices/procedures
EX 4:Experience in the development and delivery of safety/health related training;
EX 5:Experience in using a variety of common office software: Access and Excel.

Abilities:
A1. Ability to prioritize and work independently

Willing and able to work overtime, as and when required

Occupational Certification:
Successful completion of one or more certification in the field of health and safety such as, the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC);

Experience:
Experience in supervision
Experience managing a budget
Experience with DND/CAF General Safety Programs

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Must possess and maintain a Class 5 Driver’s license
Must be willing to obtain and maintain a DND 404
Must be willing and able to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as and when required
Must be willing and able to attend employer directed training
