Our team of financial professionals represents the Chief Financial Officer’s Branch in the Atlantic Region through providing strategic and objective financial advice and guidance to client groups within Employment and Social Development Canada in all aspects of financial management. In addition, we assist our regional Service Canada client with planning, budgeting and forecasting their Operating budget of $1.15B and the G&C budget of $2B, for greater effective business decisions by senior leadership. The teams also provide periodic reporting on Service Canada funding utilization, as well as establishing multi-year financial forecasts, to mitigate and manage potential financial risks and pressures.

What you can expect from this staffing process:

Step 1: Provide cover letter and/or resume that highlights how you meet all essential and asset criteria if applicable. Please note you must meet all essential criteria to be considered in the assessment phase of the staffing process.

Step 2: Once you submit your cover letter and resume, you will be immediately prompted to complete a Candidate Achievement Record highlighting your past performance demonstrating each key leadership competency through a specific example. For each example, you will need to provide the name of a) Direct supervisor or manager who can attest to your ability to demonstrate this competency through example provided b) Direct report/colleague who can attest to your ability to demonstrate this competency through example provided.

Step 3: Send a copy of your proof of education and valid language results, if you have them, to by the closing date of the staffing process. If you do not have valid language results, we will arrange for your levels to be assessed upon being successful in the competency portion of the assessment.

Written communication will be assessed through your cover letter, application and responses to the formal assessment.

Step 4: Now that your part is done, you wait. Depending on the quantity of candidates, it make take 6 to 8 weeks to screen and correct assessments. You will receive notification of your results and whether you have been placed in a valid staffing pool.

Information on language requirements

Education:

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics AND experience related to positions in the Financial Management Group.

OR

Eligibility for a recognized professional accounting designation. The recognized professional accounting designations are Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).

*Eligibility means that a candidate has met all academic and occupational requirements, including those with respect to degrees, examinations, and experience, without having to have obtained or maintained actual registration, certification or membership in a professional association. Candidates with foreign education credentials must provide proof of Canadian equivalency.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Significant* experience in providing briefings, advice AND recommendations to senior management** clients in each of the following 4 areas:

• Financial Planning;
• Budgeting;
• Forecasting; and
• Reporting.

*Significant experience refers to primary responsibilities and the depth, breadth and complexity of experience normally associated with performance of the duties on a continuous basis over a period of approximately two (2) years.

** Senior Management is defined as being at the senior manager level or equivalent or higher.

Education:
