Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill two EN-ENG-05 positions on an indeterminate basis at CanmetENERGY, in Varennes, Quebec. One position is in Smart Grid distribution network (Stream 1) and the second position is in Bulk grid and renewable energy (Stream 2).

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-ENG-05 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Stream 1: Smart Grid distribution network
Stream 2: Bulk grid and renewable energy

Stream 1 and 2:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in electrical engineering or in another engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position; or eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Noteworthy* managerial** experience, in the planning and implementation of resources to carry out research projects with multidisciplinary teams.

Experience in developing recommendations and providing expert advice to senior management and industry executives.

Experience in managing interactions with a large number of stakeholders of various types related to renewable energies and/or electrical networks, including the private sector and national/international associations.

Experience in negotiating and implementing R&D and partnership project agreements.

Recent*** and significant experience * * ** in the field of renewable energies and/or Smart grids and/or electrical grids.

Experience in the planning and execution of applied research, development or innovative design work in an area of electrical engineering and/or renewable energy.

* Noteworthy means 3 or more years of full-time experience;

** Managerial experience implies staff supervision, establishment of work objectives, assignment of work, evaluation of performance and management of development;.

***Recent experience is within the last 5 years;

***Significant experience is equivalent to 10 years or more of full-time experience in work environment or equivalent to 8 years or more of full-time experience in work environment plus a research master or PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution in electrical engineering or in another engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position;

Stream 1:

Experience working in the field of electrical energy distribution.

Experience working with technologies and equipment used in smart grid distribution systems.

Stream 2:

Experience working in the field of electrical networks, including interconnections between main networks or the integration of renewable energies.

Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)

Information on language requirements

Stream 1 and 2:

Knowledge of theories, principles, problems and/or practices of electrical engineering related to renewable energies.

Knowledge of trends, developments and new technologies in renewable energy.

Ability to manage the human and financial resources of multidisciplinary teams.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Stream 2:

Knowledge of the operation, interconnection and markets of Canadian electrical grids.

Stream 1 and 2:

Master's degree or doctorate from a recognized post-secondary institution in electrical engineering or in another engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Eligibility to an engineering title in Canada in a field of engineering related to the duties of the position.

Experience in writing, preparation and publication of scientific publications (journals and conferences).

Experience working with standards in the field of electrical networks.
