Duties

This exciting opportunity will allow the nominated candidates to play a key role in the design, manufacturing, and operations of cutting-edge space projects in the fields of Earth observation and space exploration!
As part of your role, you will be called upon to engage in rich interactions with national and international suppliers of space equipment.

Here are some of the key tasks:
• Performs technical verifications, studies and analyses in support of Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) activities relative to the design, development, manufacturing, integration and testing of space and ground systems, payloads and missions.
• Provides S&MA support during Mission operations and disposal phases for these projects.
• Performs audits and assessments of contractor-furnished hardware, processes, test results, and other documentation, in order to verify compliance with S&MA, system and software requirements.
• Provides expertise relating to quality assurance, product design and manufacturing, and flight certification of space systems and payloads, to individual project managers and engineers on various projects.
• Contributes to the development, implementation and dissemination of S&MA policies, standards, procedures, formal processes and Product Assurance Requirements.
• Participates regularly in programmatic and formal technical review meetings.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis (permanent). A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates will be established to staff identical or similar positions whose length, linguistic profiles and security profiles may vary.

Preference for the position to be filled immediately could be given to candidates with expertise in one of the following three streams:
1) electronic, electrical and electromechanical parts (EEE)
2) software or firmware
3) artificial intelligence development

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution*, in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position such as, but not limited to: Aerospace, Aeronautic, Chemical, Civil, Physics, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Software, Materials, Systems.
OR
• Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• At least seven (7) years of experience within the last ten (10) years in evaluating, analyzing, and solving engineering problems and in making recommendations of which, two (2) years were related to Quality Assurance, Product Assurance, or Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) problems on space, aerospace, or military engineering projects.

• Approximately two (2) years of experience in performing technical verifications (e.g. review of contractor quality or product assurance plans and implementation, audits, inspections, review of design) of space, aerospace or military systems.

• Approximately two (2) years of experience in participating on : MRBs (Material Review Boards), CCB (Configuration Control Board), or Design or Manufacturing Board reviews, for hardware or software non-compliances on space, aerospace, or military projects.

KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of best practices* or requirements* in at least one of the following domains as used in the manufacture of high-reliability space systems : 1) EEE (Electronic, Electrical and Electromechanical) parts, 2) mechanical parts, 3) software or firmware, or 4) materials and processes.

• Knowledge of Quality Assurance practices* or processes* used to verify either hardware or software of space, aerospace, or military engineering projects.

* As accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective by national space agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) or European Space Agency (ESA).

ABILITIES/SKILLS:

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience* with the selection, screening, qualification, or requirements definition for space or aerospace EEE parts.

• Experience* with artificial intelligence development.

• Experience* in defining requirements, troubleshooting, testing, developing and implementing processes, procedures and audits used in the development of hardware or software for space or aerospace systems.

• Experience* in performing studies related to safety hazards and reliability in the aerospace or military field.

• Experience* working on the Canadian Space Station Program.


*Experience refers to the performance of relevant work activities over a period of approximately 2 years in the last 10 years.
