Work environment

Shared Services Canada is modernizing how the Government of Canada manages its information technology (IT) infrastructure. The Department is mandated to deliver email, data centre and telecommunication services, including videoconferencing and Wi-Fi, to partner organizations.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, most SSC staff have been working entirely remotely. As the situation evolves, when a return to the physical site is possible, employees and managers will discuss the possibility of continuing to work remotely under certain conditions.

Intent of the process

An essentially assessed pool and/or a partially assessed pool may be established. NB: This process may be used to staff similar or identical positions with various tenures within Shared Services Canada (such as indeterminate, specified period, acting, deployment, and assignment/secondment).

EDUCATION
ED1: A secondary school diploma or an acceptable of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Recent* and significant** experience in the development or delivery of a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program that has an organizational wide impact.
EX2: Recent* and significant** experience providing strategic advice and recommendations to managers on sensitive issues related to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
EX3: Recent* and significant** experience in managing investigations related to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

*“Recent” experience is defined as experience normally acquired within the last two (2) years.
** ‘’Significant’’ experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of approximately three (3) years.

ASSET EDUCATION
AED1: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in a field relevant to the position such as: business administration, human resources and industrial relations.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience managing human and financial resources.
AEX2: Experience working in a virtual team environment.

KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislations, policies and directives.
K2: Knowledge of provincial government Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) claim management process and policy.
K3: Knowledge of Directive on the Prevention and Resolution of Workplace Harassment and Violence
K4: Knowledge of investigation protocols.

COMPETENCIES

C4: Showing initiative and being action-oriented.

ABILITIES
A1: Ability to write briefing notes to senior management (Director and above).
A2: Ability to manage and supervise a team.
A3: Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in an environment of variable deadlines.
A4: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
A5: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
