The Aboriginal Program Coordinator acts as a liaison between Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Indigenous communities that either live or fish in the Gulf Nova Scotia designated waters. The coordinator is responsible for the management of the Aboriginal fisheries strategy (AFS) agreements in the area and assists in resource management with the communities. The coordinator is also a member of regional committees that support indigenous fisheries.
The intent of this process to staff one (1) Indeterminate PM-05 position within the Antigonish Area Office, NS. Please note that the selection process could be used to staff similar level positions within DFO with various tenures, linguistic profiles, various security requirements, various condition of employment and various locations.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two (2) years education from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience providing strategic advice to management on complex issues.
• Experience representing the position of government or the department at meetings with internal & external partners or clients.
• Experience in building relationships, engagement or consultation with Indigenous groups.
• Experience in drafting various documents such as but not limited to correspondence and briefings in providing recommendations to management.

• Knowledge of court decisions and initiatives related to Indigenous participation in the fisheries of the Maritime Provinces
