Duties

The incumbent will be brought to :

1. Participate in the deployment, retrieval, maintenance, calibration and acquisition of various data acquisition systems and oceanographic instruments.

2. Participate in technical and logistical support during missions at sea.

3. Perform a variety of manual and technical shop tasks to repair, upgrade and prepare field equipment.

4. Collect, validate and ensure the follow-up of data and metadata acquired by the instruments under the responsibility of his team.

5. To conduct occasional trips at sea to troubleshoot autonomous data acquisition platforms such as oceanographic buoys.

6. Perform real-time monitoring of various autonomous systems.

7. Participate in the development of equipment acquisition strategies, work protocols and the implementation of new projects within his work team and in collaboration with other teams at the Maurice Lamontagne Institute and elsewhere in the Department.

8. To perform tasks related to health, safety and good work practices in the field and in the laboratory.

Work environment

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is a Department of the Government of Canada that is responsible for the management of fisheries and the protection of oceans. This includes conducting scientific research to better understand the marine environment. For the Quebec region, this research is carried out at the Maurice Lamontagne Institute, located in Mont-Joli in Eastern Quebec.

We are looking for candidates to join a team of technicians dedicated to scientific support in the field of electronics, mechanics or technologies.

Post-secondary degree in a job-related technology field or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience using Microsoft office.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience working at sea.

Experience working in an electronic and/or mechanical maintenance shop.

Experience in telemetry and underwater acoustics.

Experience in the use of modern telecommunication technologies (e.g. cellular/satellite modem transmission systems).

Experience in the operation of small boats at sea.

Experience in the use of drafting software (e.g. Autocad, Solidworks).

Experience working with various machine tools (e.g. 3D printer, CNC, lathe).

Experience driving with hitches (trailers).

Be willing to work on a variable schedule and to work overtime.
