Intent of the process

The immediate intention of this selection process is to fill indeterminate positions with various language requirements.

A partially assessed pool may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of Finance, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and the Privy Council Office.

EDUCATION:

A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution** or an acceptable combination of education, training, and work experience.

*The term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities.

**A post-secondary institution is defined as: a public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience writing and formatting communication products for an internal or external audience (such as correspondence, strategic communication plans, press releases, media monitoring summaries and web content).
- Experience in performing media monitoring duties, including searching, processing and monitoring online media, newspaper, social media, radio and television.

KNOWLEDGE:

- Knowledge of the Canadian media environment.
- Knowledge of the Government of Canada’s Policy on Communications and Federal Identity.

ABILITIES:

- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to prepare media summaries.
- Ability to identify news articles and social media posts of interest to the Department.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Asset Experience:

- Experience in journalism or in information services or in a press clipping operation or related field.
- Experience using any of the following tools: Tweetdeck, Meltwater, Hootsuite, Command News, Newsdesk, Google analytics, Newswhip/Spike, Adobe Reader Pro, and Excel.
- Experience in performing media monitoring duties, including monitoring online media, newspaper, social media, radio and television within the Government of Canada.
- Experience producing and distributing media clippings packages to a distribution list that includes senior executives.
