Duties

The Canadian Geodetic Survey (CGS) provides national reference frames, gravity field measurements, GNSS data products and online services for accurate positioning. These products serve as the common foundation for all mapping, charting, navigation, boundary demarcation, crustal deformation, and other georeferencing needs in Canada.

Under the authority of Canadian Geodetic Survey Director, the Program Manager/Chief Geodetic Operations is responsible for the planning, management and delivery of assigned Division program components; to lead and coordinate the development and preparation of Section input into various planning and reporting documents; to monitor geodetic S&T developments and program management issues; and to represent the Division at departmental, inter-departmental, national and international forums.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff two positions at the EN-SUR-05 group and level, located at 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario.

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada at the EN-SUR-05 group and level with various tenures (determinate period or permanent). The language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual), the method to staff a bilingual position (imperative and/or non-imperative), and linguistic profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.) may vary, as well as security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), conditions of employment and work locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

►Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in geodetic sciences or other related field such as geomatics, land survey theory and practice, or remote sensing.

Degree equivalency

►Experience in collaboration/partnership development with different levels of government and academia, industry or non-government organizations.
►Experience managing human, financial and material resources.
►Experience planning and executing geomatics projects using space-based technologies.
►Experience providing strategic advice and making recommendations to senior management*.
►Experience writing and presenting briefing material to senior management*.

*Senior management is defined as Director level or equivalent and above (Private Sector = Director, Senior manager, general manager etc.).

Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC)
Consideration may be given to staffing one or more positions on a non-imperative basis, if the number of qualified, bilingual (CBC/CBC) candidates is insufficient.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
►A Master’s of Science or Doctorate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Geodesy or other related field.

Degree equivalency

►A Commission with the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors as a Canada Lands Surveyor.

►Experience coordinating and contributing geodetic expertise to scientific projects or investigations.
►Experience developing online services for geospatial data utilisation.

►Knowledge of the accuracy levels and practical limitations of modern space-based geodetic measuring technologies.
