• Plans and manages scientific and technical projects (hydrographic data acquisition, processing, validation, management and transformation of data for production of nautical charts and related products) within one or more of the major operational functions of the CHS.
• Supervises hydrographic specialists, hydrographic technical staff and other technical support staff; assigns and monitors work, conducts performance appraisals, recommends training and development, ensures staff are provided with the necessary tools and work environment (health and safety) to complete assigned tasks.
• Manages project finances, resources and overtime, and contracts for the provision of goods and/or services; assists with the preparation of work plans and budgets.
• Provides support to CHS management as an authority in one or more knowledge areas, representing the CHS and/or region on committees and working groups; assisting in the recommendation, development, analysis and implementation of new or improved tools, systems, methodologies, or processes for the CHS.
• Supervises the ISO Quality Management responsibilities for the project, ensures quality management processes are followed, and looks for process improvements and best practices.
• Writes, presents and publishes scientific and technical papers, reports and proposals.
• Promotes the CHS and its services, products, technologies and tools through communications/presentations to client and stakeholder groups, seminars, trade shows, and conferences to increase knowledge, understanding and public awareness to support safe navigation in Canadian waters.
The pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions in others locations in Canada, within others federal organizations, with various language requirements, tenures and security requirements.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field.
OR
Eligibility* for a Land Surveyor Commission in Canada.
*Eligibility: A candidate has met all academic and occupational requirements with respect to degrees, examinations, experience, etc., without having to have obtained the actual commission.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in Geomatics/Hydrography acquired in, either, data acquisition (surveying), data transformation (chart production), data management, tidal surveying and analysis, or Technical Support.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in geomatics, geodesy, or Ocean Mapping.
EXPERIENCE
Experience managing technical projects in any of the following: hydrographic surveying, marine cartography, spatial data management, technical support, or tidal surveying and analysis.
Experience implementing new systems in hydrographic surveying, marine cartography, spatial data management, technical support, or tidal surveying and analysis.
Experience operating under a recognized quality management system.
Experience developing hydrographic policy, procedures or standards.
Experience working on Hydrographic Projects.
Experience using CARIS and other Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
Experience providing advice, support and training relating to hydrographic surveying, marine cartography, spatial data management, tidal surveying and analysis, or technical support.
Experience managing a technical project budget.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness and ability to perform field work, including aboard ships and launches, for extended periods of up to several weeks per year as required.
Willingness and ability to work for substantial periods at a computer terminal
Willingness and ability to work in small aircraft and helicopters.
Willingness and ability to work in remote areas.
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and overtime on weekends and holidays.
Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally.
Willingness and ability to use a firearm against dangerous wildlife (for some positions)
Reliability status security clearance.
Possession of a valid driver’s license or mobility to the extent of the possession of a valid driver's license.
Medical fitness in accordance with the requirement of the position as set out by Health Canada’s Occupational Health Assessment guide.
Non-Restricted Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (NR PAL) (for some positions).
