Duties

Western Economic Diversification is looking for a Regional Finance Officer to join our team. If you are motivated and interested in an exciting opportunity for growth in a dynamic department please apply.

We are looking for people who think independently, work creatively and enjoy working in a team environment to support the priorities of the department. As Regional Finance Officer, you will provide financial management and support to staff including financial analysis, reporting, advice and assistance to senior executives, management and staff of Western Diversification in the Region and/or Federal Councils. In this role, you will be challenged to:

• Research, monitor and analyze budgetary plans, funding allocations, expenditure reports
• Design, prepare and interpret periodic and ad hoc financial reports and make recommendations
• Monitor the operation of regional financial systems to ensure accuracy and advised regional managers on budgetary reporting and control
• Update regional finance delegation specimen signature cards
• Work on interdepartmental financial transactions, and
• Participate in regional, departmental finance working groups.

As a Regional Financial Advisor, you will provide financial management and support to staff including financial analysis, reporting, advice and assistance to senior executives, management and staff of Western Diversification in the Region and/or Federal Councils.

Intent of the process

We will fill a two year term (temporary) full-time vacancy, with the potentiality of extension. An anticipatory pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level. This process may be used for various positions and tenures (including but not limited to term and indeterminate appointments, internal assignments, secondments, deployments, acting appointments, casual) as well as various locations, security requirements, language requirements and conditions of employment. The pool of qualified candidate may also be shared and accessed with other federal government departments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics AND experience related to positions in the Financial Management Group.

Degree equivalency

Experience
• Experience in analysis and interpreting financial data

• Experience in providing financial advice and guidance to clients.

• Experience in working in a multi-system environment: using an enterprise or an organization financial system in combination with one or more other applications, systems or programs to produce financial analysis, reports and/or presentations.

• Experience in the administration and financial management of a Grants and Contribution program.

• Experience working with Excel (Such as using advanced formulas such as SUMIFS and/or VLOOKUP; tables and formatting; Pivot Tables; integrating Excel with other tools and optimizing Excel; etc.).

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Education
• Eligibility for a recognized professional accounting designation (ie. CA, CPA, RIA/CMA or CGA).

Degree equivalency

Experience
• Experience in the use of a financial system

• Experience in initiatives that require the establishment of collaborative working relationships.

• Experience in providing advice and support to senior management on financial management matters.
