The Emergency Watch and Response Centre at Global Affairs Canada is a central point of contact for Canadians traveling abroad who are in need of emergency assistance. The Centre deals with various types of emergencies ranging from wide-scale, such as natural disasters and civil unrest, to personal, such as illness, accidents or theft. Operations Officers of the Emergency Watch and Response Centre, which operates 24hrs per day/7 days a week, must be willing to work in shifts to provide assistance and advice to Canadians. Operations Officers are responsible for monitoring travel advisories and world events that may have an impact on Canadian citizens abroad, and help coordinate Global Affairs Canada’s response to emergency situations.

EDUCATION

ED1 - Post-secondary school diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience.
EXPERIENCE

E1 - Significant* experience in providing services directly to the public**.
E2 - Experience in liaising with at least two of the following: internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, government department or senior officials***.
* “Significant” experience is defined as an experience of approximately 3 years (consecutive or not). The significance of the experience will be assessed according to the complexity and scope of the service to the public. Applicants should provide clear, specific examples in their application.
** "Public" is defined as the general populace; those served by the Canadian government. It does not include employees of the public service.
***Senior officials is defined as at the Director level or above.

Information on employment equity

Failure to clearly demonstrate in the questionnaire how you meet the education and experience, both essential and asset where applicable, may result in the rejection of your application. Candidates will not be solicited for incomplete or possible missing information.

If candidates do not have valid results, candidates' linguistic levels will be validated through the PSC's unsupervised reading and writing test(s) for this process. Candidates in the area of selection may be tested prior to screening.
The board members may retain a certain number of applicants for further assessment, based on a top-down approach, a random selection or based on some of the assets qualifications.
Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
