What will you be doing?
- You will be responsible for teaching employees of Statistics Canada in either French or English to help them attain their desired results for their Second Language Evaluations
- Develop curriculum and learning materials
- Oversee the individual progress of each student during their language training
Statistics Canada offers a dynamic work environment where learning is valued. In fact, the agency has always invested in the training and development of its employees. We offer a full range of courses, including second language, IT, statistical and subject-matter courses to meet the needs of employees.
The Language Training Section offers a language training program and services adapted to employees’ needs. Since the pandemic began, training for employees has been entirely virtual. The purpose of the program is to promote a bilingual, inclusive culture and to build a bilingual organizational capacity. Various training arrangements are available, as well as language evaluation services, pedagogical advice and strategic human resources planning.
A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established from this process to staff ED-LAT-01 and equivalent positions within Statistics Canada. This process may be used to staff positions of various tenures, language requirements, security profiles and various work locations.
If you are an employee of the public service of Canada and are qualified through this process, you may be considered for indeterminate, acting, assignment, determinate, secondment or deployment opportunities and the proper approval will be sought.

EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in education, linguistics, sociology, psychology, mathematics, physics, home economics, or another specialization related to positions in the group.
EXPERIENCE
EXP1. Recent* and significant** experience in teaching adults in French or English as a second language.
EXP2. Experience using a variety of teaching methods and various methodologies
EXP3. Experience in overseeing the progress of learners and providing feedback to guide them towards achieving their goals.
Recent* experience is defined as experience acquired over the past five (5) years.
Significant** experience is defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for a period of at least two (2) years.

K1. Knowledge of the communicative approach to second language teaching.

ASSETS
AEXP1. Experience in using technology to teach (virtual or online learning).
AEXP2. Recent* experience in evaluating the progress, performance, and make recommendations to adult learners in language training for levels B and C, as defined in the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Qualification Standards in Relation to Official Languages.
AEXP3. Significant** experience in providing advice to learners and/or pedagogical advisors on language training.
*Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the past five (5) years.
** Significant experience is defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for a period of at least two (2) years.
