Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) term PC-02 position in Toronto, Ontario. A pool may be created and similar PC-02 and BI-02 positions may be staffed through this process with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, acting extensions, assignment, secondment) and/or security requirements (reliability or secret) within Environment and Climate Change Canada in Ontario region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

For BI-02 positions only:
ED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

For PC-02 positions only:
ED2: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position such as geography, ecology, biology, conservation sciences, environmental sciences or natural resources.

Degree equivalency

For PC-02 and BI-02 positions:
EX1: Experience compiling, analyzing, and interpreting information from scientific publications, technical reports, aboriginal traditional knowledge, or primary data sources related to wildlife, habitat or ecosystems.
EX2: Experience preparing written reports or publications on the topic of wildlife, habitat or ecosystems.
EX3: Experience working on projects or programs involving surveying, monitoring, or management of wildlife or habitat.

For PC-02 and BI-02 positions:
AED1: Graduation with an advanced degree (Masters, Doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
AED2: Possession of a certificate or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), wildlife or ecosystem management, ecological restoration or another field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

For PC-02 and BI-02 positions:
AEX1: Experience working with Indigenous peoples, Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge, environmental non-government organizations or other levels of government.
AEX2: Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software to analyze geospatial data related to wildlife or habitat.
AEX3: Experience compiling, analyzing or managing environmental data.
AEX4: Experience with field-based data or sample collection and use of field equipment (for example, GPS, acoustic recording units, camera traps, or other instruments).
AEX5: Experience conducting or planning logistics for field work in remote locations, such as in northern Ontario or similarly remote locations.
AEX6: Experience working on projects or programs related to wildlife, habitat or ecosystems of northern Ontario.

For PC-02 positions only:
AEX7: Experience working in programs related to one or both of the following:
• management of conservation lands or protected areas;
• acquiring or securing land
AEX8: Experience assessing environmental effects or mitigation of proposed industrial, commercial or other developments on wildlife, habitat or ecosystems.
AEX9: Experience conducting plant identification surveys in Ontario wetlands.

For BI-02 positions only:
AEX10: Experience in recovery planning for species at risk.

Willing and able to work overtime, irregular hours, and weekends on occasion.
A valid unrestricted Ontario G-class driver’s license or equivalent from another jurisdiction.

A pre-placement Health Canada medical clearance.
