Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff these or similar positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff these positions and/or similar positions on an indeterminate, specified period (term), acting, secondment/assignment, or deployment basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in environmental science and/or engineering or another discipline relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Recent* experience in providing guidance and advice in the application of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) (or its predecessor the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA)), the Fisheries Act (FA), and the Navigation Protection Act (NPA).

Recent* experience in completing and supervising studies on the environmental effects of projects under the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) or the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). (i.e. predicting and evaluating a project's environmental impact before it is implemented).

*Recent experience is understood to mean within the past five (5) years.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA), the Fisheries Act (FA) and the Canadian Navigable Waters Act (CNWA) when applied to construction projects and marine or harbour infrastructure rehabilitation.

Knowledge of the fundamental principles of the Crown's obligations with regard to Indigenous consultations for construction and infrastructure projects.

Ability to manage and coordinate work carried out in multidisciplinary groups.
Ability to analyze and interpret technical data pertaining to environmental assessment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

A master's degree in environmental science and/or engineering or another discipline relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience completing and supervising Indigenous consultations or traditional knowledge studies.
Experience with construction and civil infrastructure rehabilitation projects in freshwater, marine, coastal or riverine environments.
Experience with regulatory requirements for projects in Nunavut, including the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB), Nunavut Water Board (NWB), Nunavut Planning Commission (NPC), or Nunavut Research Institute (NRI).
Experience completing and supervising Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments and working with Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Environmental Guidelines.
Experience with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Disposal at Sea regulatory requirements.
Experience completing and supervising biological sampling studies in support of Fish and Fish Habitat assessments.
Experience completing and supervising Fish Habitat compensation projects.
Experience conducting environmental audits.
Experience with regulatory requirements related to Storage Tanks for fuel and waste oil.
Experience preparing and implementing environmental management plans.
