Essential Education

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biological, natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Essential Experience
Significant* experience in leading, planning and conducting scientific and regulatory evaluation.
Significant* experience in analysing, reviewing and interpreting scientific data.
Significant* experience in writing scientific reports, analysing, integrating and summarizing key scientific information from multiple sources.
Significant* experience in providing advice or recommendations based on interpretation of regulations, policies and guidelines.
* For the purposes of this process, "significant experience” is defined as an experience which is normally acquired over a period of THREE (3)years, and for which these tasks are performed on an on-going basis as part of the main duties of the position.

Essential Stream Specific Experience

Stream 1 – Toxicology
Significant* experience in the assessment of hazard or risk to human health posed by chemical substances.

Stream 2 – Dietary and/or Occupational/Residential Exposure
Significant* experience in the assessment of risk to human health posed by pesticides (or other chemical substances).
Significant* experience in the integration of results from pesticide (or other chemical substances) exposure evaluation into human health risk assessments.

Stream 3 – Entomology/Plant Pathology
Significant* experience in entomology or plant pathology.

Stream 4 – Environmental Risk
Significant* experience in conducting assessments of the environmental risks of pesticides (or other chemicals) in the environment.
Significant* experience in assessing and interpreting scientific studies related to the environmental toxicology or fate of pesticides (or other chemicals) in the environment.

Stream 5 – Re-evaluation coordination and risk management/issue management
Significant* experience in conducting the assessment and management of risk
to human health or the environment posed by pesticides (or other chemical substances).
Significant* experience in leading multi-disciplinary scientific teams in a regulatory context.

* For the purposes of this process, "significant experience” is defined as an experience which is normally acquired over a period of THREE (3) years, and for which these tasks are performed on an on-going basis as part of the main duties of the position.

Common Knowledge Requirement
Knowledge of uses, effects and regulation of pesticides.

Stream 1 – Toxicology
Knowledge of theories and procedures relevant to the assessment of toxicity (for example, mammalian physiology, carcinogenicity, pharmacology, neurotoxicity, etc.).
Knowledge of the standard protocols, theories and principles of human hazard and risk assessment of chemical substances.

Stream 2 – Dietary and/or Occupational/Residential Exposure
Knowledge of the theories and principles of human hazard, risk assessment and risk management of pesticides (or other chemical substances).
Knowledge of dietary and/or occupational/residential exposure studies to conduct human health risk assessment for pesticides (or other chemical substances).

Stream 3 – Entomology & Plant Pathology
Knowledge of experimental design, experimental procedures, data collection, and data analysis in entomology/plant pathology.
Knowledge of production sites and practices for crops grown in Canada.
Knowledge of pest management practices, including uses and application methods of insecticides/fungicides.

Stream 4 – Environmental
Knowledge of the assessment of environmental fate (transformation and transport processes) or ecotoxicology of pesticides or other chemicals.

Stream 5 - Re-evaluation Coordination
Knowledge of theories and principles of human health or environmental risk assessment and risk management of pesticides (or other chemical substances).

Abilities
