Duties

We require a person to serve in an EG-04 position as a Research Assistant in a Field Crop Entomology research program. The successful candidate will coordinate and perform research activities that focus on crop insects, with the following main duties:
- Develop, adapt, and implement protocols to collect research data on insect pest impact and management in field and controlled environments.
- Identify insect pests of field crops and their natural enemies.
- Rear insects in laboratory, greenhouse, and field environments.
- Adapt lab and field equipment and protocols as required to meet research needs.
- Summarize data and assist with preparation of articles and presentations.
- Assist with staffing of students, train students and co-ordinate their work.
- Procure and manage laboratory and field supplies.

Intent of the process

Immediate need: 1 full-time permanent position.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.

Degree equivalency

Recent* experience providing technical support and coordinating pest or biocontrol insect-plant interaction research projects in both field and laboratory environments.
Experience collecting insect samples.
Experience following protocols for 1) assessing insect damage to plants, and 2) insect sampling, rearing, or care.
Experience using a binomial key to identify insects or other arthropods.

*Recent is defined as experience generally gained within the last five (5) years.

M.Sc. degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following fields: Entomology; Natural Resources; Biology; Ecology or a related agricultural program.

Experience operating farm equipment (e.g. seeding and harvesting equipment).
