The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and marketability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.
The CGC is a significant part of Canada’s dynamic and diverse agricultural sector. We regulate grain handling in Canada, set grain standards and conduct research on grain. This process will be used to staff a 1-year term position.
A pool may be created to staff similar positions with various linguistic profiles and tenures (indeterminate, specified term, acting, deployment, secondment).

Education:
• Post-secondary Diploma in occupational health and safety from an accredited Canadian institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and /or experience of a minimum of 3-5 years in the field of OHS.
Experience:
• Experience providing advice, guidance and/or recommendations to a range of clients and management with respect to the application and interpretation of Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policies and guidelines.

Experience:
• Experience providing a range of occupational health and safety support services to management, employees and committees.
• Experience working in a laboratory in which hazardous materials were used.
• Experience delivering training.
• Experience in incident investigation, such as accidents, security breaches, equipment failures, or other related activities that require assessing contributing factors and determining root cause.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of chemical safety practices.
• Knowledge of safe laboratory practices.

Abilities:
• Ability to use a variety of methods to conduct research related to occupational health and safety/biosafety issues.
Reliability Status security clearance
• Willingness to work overtime
• Ability to travel within Canada or to the United States of America.
• Valid drivers' license OR personal mobility in the time and manner normally associated with possession and use of a valid driver's license.
• Ability and willingness to be exposed to grain and flour dust / soil, and to outdoor conditions in an industrial environment. Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication, and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
• Ability and willingness to be exposed to hazardous microorganisms, chemicals and equipment while using all required personal protective equipment and following safe work procedures.
