The successful candidate will plan, develop and conduct independent and collaborative research on the ecology and management of species at risk within the context of managed, forested landscapes. The scientist will be responsible for collaborating with provincial, industrial, and federal agencies to implement a broad scale avian monitoring program using acoustic recording units, develop occupancy models with provincial forest inventory databases, and integrate habitat models into forest succession and forest management models. The incumbent will join a multidisciplinary team and develop collaborations with research staff within Atlantic Forestry Centre, other CFS research centres, and academic institutions.
The intent is to staff one determinate (1) position with Natural Resources Canada. A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar SE RES positions at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)with various tenures (determinate or indeterminate), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, et c.), various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Education
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position or an acceptable master's degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.
Productivity/Recognition
Recognized achievement in the form of authorship or editorship of published reports, books, peer-reviewed journal articles and other written communications resulting from research, experimental or technical development, commensurate with years of experience.
Experience
Experience in designing and conducting large-scale field experiments, observational or manipulative, to determine species-habitat associations and/or response to landscape change.
Experience in at least one of the following areas of research: landscape ecology, occupancy modelling, spatial ecology, and/or forest management.
Experience in the use of advanced statistical packages such as R.
