The Surveyor General Branch (SGB) delivers boundary management through two operation centres in Edmonton and Ottawa, and through 10 Regional Offices in Amherst, Quebec City, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Vancouver, Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Iqaluit. This decentralization allows the SGB to be responsive to the needs of First Nations, Indigenous Services Canada, Parks Canada, Justice Canada, provincial and territorial governments, land surveyors, land surveying associations and others who work on or with Canada Lands (as defined in Section 24 of the Canada Lands Surveys Act). It also means proactive involvement with various initiatives, including First Nation land management, treaty land entitlement and additions to reserves, land claim agreements, resource extraction, renewable energy infrastructure, and the marking of boundaries in support of sovereignty.

The initial intent is to staff one position on a permanent basis, located at 701 - 1783 Hamilton Street, Regina, Saskatchewan.
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-SUR-02 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geomatics, geodetic sciences and remote sensing.
OR
A Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND license to practice issued by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors
OR
A license or authority to practice as a land surveyor in any province in Canada.
Note: If this condition is met by having a license or authority to practice as a land surveyor in a province, then the successful candidate must obtain a Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND license to practice within 2 years of appointment to the position.
