Intent of the process

-This process will be used to staff various English Essential CR-04 positions within the RCMP in Ottawa, Ontario ONLY. Most positions are located at 73 Leikin Drive in the South-West of Ottawa (Barrhaven). This pool will not be used to staff positions outside of the RCMP or in other regions.
-ALL positions staffed will require an RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance level or higher.

A response to a text question addressing the following:

  • As part of your application, you will be asked to write a 300-500 word text in English that will assess your ability to write in English.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience in performing general office support (General office support is defined as report processing, managing telephone calls, filing, data entry, photocopying, scanning and dealing with clients).

Experience in using a variety of software programs such as word processing, e-mail, data base and spreadsheet applications.

Experience working in a financial or accounting environment.

Experience in the use of a financial information system (such as SAP).

Experience in conducting searches/retrieval, organizing and maintaining official information/records/files.

Experience in gathering, compiling and analyzing information.

Experience in providing client services.

Experience working in a processing, mailing or distribution environment.

Experience in a call center environment.

Experience working in a policing environment.

Experience working in a legal environment.

Experience working in an Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) environment.

Information on language requirements

THE FOLLOWING ABILITIES AND PERSONAL SUITABILITY WILL BE ASSESSED THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS VIA EXAMS OR INTERVIEW:

1. Ability to perform data entry tasks quickly and accurately.

2. Ability to communicate effectively in writing in English.

3. Ability to communicate effectively orally in English.

4. Dependability;

5. Effective interpersonal skills;

6. Judgment.

Note: All positions will be `English Essential` and the English language abilities will be tested via the Text question asked during your application (for writing) and via a supplemental question in English at the end of the interview (for the oral). These will in no way contravene candidates` rights to be assessed in the language of their choice for all other merit criteria.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - The pool of candidates will be used to staff positions requiring an RCMP enhanced reliability, a Secret or Top Secret clearance.
All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.

ASSESSMENTS:
Note that a random selection may be performed.
Following the review and correction of the required English text question, successful candidates will be contacted via email and invited to complete an online data entry assessment. Those who are successful will be invited to an interview.
Please note that interviews may be conducted using a pre-recorded video submitted online by candidates and subsequently assessed by the Board Members. More information will be shared with those invited to an interview.
Reference checks will be completed for those who pass the interview.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
