Duties

We are looking for skilled individuals willing to participate in exciting work, happening with the Government of Canada Network and Security infrastructure services. We are mandated to provide infrastructure management services for all 43 partners and the next years to come will be creating very complex challenges as the GoC continues to evolve.

▻ Shared Services Canada is modernizing how the Government of Canada manages its information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure. The Networks, Security and Digital Services branch (NSDS) is responsible for the planning, design and operations of the Government of Canada (GC) IT network infrastructure; the management of cyber and IT security services that protects GC data and technology assets; and the deployment of modern, reliable and cost-effective digital services, including telecommunication services and support, hardware and software provisioning and digital communications solutions. NSDS is also mandated to support enhanced telecommunications and network services designed to improve collaboration, mobility and capacity at the enterprise level, while delivering improved value for Canadian taxpayers.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and will be used to staff similar positions within Shared Services Canada in various locations across Canada. Other government departments may use this staffing process to appoint a candidate to its organization in a similar position.

EDUCATION - BOTH STREAMS

Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met via this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Employees in the CS occupational group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education level prescribed above are deemed to meet the education requirement based on their education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE - BOTH STREAMS:

E1 Significant* and recent** experience in performing a combination of two or more of the following functions for infrastructure services in a complex IM/IT environment***:

(a) planning and designing (i.e., gathering and analysing business requirements, and translating them into technical requirements; contributing to the development of high-level and detailed designs)
(b) building and deploying (i.e., installing, configuring, integrating, testing and troubleshooting solutions or services; onboarding clients)
(c) operating and maintaining (i.e., fulfilling service requests; planning and implementing changes to services; prioritizing, categorizing, investigating, tracking and resolving incidents)

E2 Experience in liaising with external partners or clients and internal or external stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.

E3. Experience in providing advice or recommendations to management regarding the design, procurement, implementation or operation of IM/IT infrastructure services.

EXPERIENCE - STREAM 2 ONLY - Team Leader

E4. Recent** experience in performing a combination of two or more of the following:

(a) coordination, monitoring and tracking the activities or tasks of others;
(b) reviewing the work of others;
(c) representing the work of others in internal or external forums;
(d) developing, administering or improving processes.

DEFINITION:
* Significant is defined as an experience normally associated with the performance of those duties on a regular basis for a period of three (3) or more years.
** Recent is defined as experience normally acquired within the last eight (8) years.
