Duties

Receives, security screens, date stamps, directs and delivers mail and provides correct postage, and schedules pick-up and delivery messenger services. Delivers mail and provides interoffice courier service. Occasionally required to chaperon maintenance service personnel through the building.

Work environment

Work will be carried out onsite at the regional office – 263 Susie Lake Crescent, Halifax NS, B3S 1C1. Will be required to follow the prescribed Canada Border Services Agency COVID-19 protocols.

Intent of the process

A pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Canada Border Services Agency or other federal departments in the Atlantic Region.

Experience:
• Experience receiving and verifying goods including but not limited to: forms, office supplies, office furniture, etc..

• Experience working with courrier or postal services.

• Experience performing a variety of office maintenance related tasks including but not limited to: minor repairs, moving furniture and equipment, framing certificates, hanging photographs, making boxes, labeling material, and shredding and disposing of waste.

• Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and an email program

Education:
• Successful completion of two years of secondary school or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).
Notes:
1.The employer-approved alternatives to two years of secondary school are:
A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to two years of secondary school; or
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who meet either of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the two years of secondary school requirement:
a)Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to two years of secondary school; or
b)Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the CR classification.
The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the two years of secondary school requirement.
2.Merely proofreading one's own typing work to ensure accurate copy is not sufficient to warrant the use of a grammar spelling and punctuation qualification.
3.The Public Service Commission Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation Test (GSPAT) or a review of the candidates' experience must be used to assess proficiency in the correction of errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Asset Qualifications:
• Experience in the use of mail processing related equipment.

• Experience advising clients on the interpretation and application of policies, methods, and procedures in a Federal Government environment.

• Experience in providing administrative support services.

• Experience using a file sharing software.

• Experience packaging items to be shipped, preparing documents for shipping, verifying and freight invoices, and maintaining an audit trail of transactions.

• Experience in mail processing methods, techniques, practices and security in the delivery of mail services.

Operational Requirement:
• Adhere to prescribed Canada Border Services Agency COVID-19 protocols.

Conditions of employment

Conditions of Employment:
• Reliability Status security clearance.
• Must be able to lift items of up to 50lbs/22.5kg.
• Possess and maintain a valid drivers licence.
