Duties

The candidate will be expected to conduct a comprehensive literature review, assist in organizing animal experiments, help write experimental protocols, participate in animal experiments, be involved in monitoring animal experiments, conduct laboratory analyses, analyze data, and write scientific articles and other reports.

The candidate will be supervised by a research scientist and assisted in the laboratory by a research assistant.

Work environment

The selected candidate will conduct research in dairy cattle immunology. Experimental work and laboratory analyses will be carried out in the Sherbrooke Research and Development Centre’s facilities.

Currently enrolled/or willing to enroll in a diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution in one of the following areas: biology or equivalent.

Degree equivalency

Experience working with large animals (example: dairy cows).
Experience working in a lab environment.

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.

- In case of allergies, know how to control them using personal protective equipment or medication so they do not interfere with the work to be carried out.
- Ability and willingness to work for long periods in a laboratory and/or animal rearing facility.
- Ability and willingness to work with hazardous materials in accordance with the safe work practices established for AAFC laboratories.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, as required.
- Ability and willingness to work with laboratory animals and large farm animals.
- Ability and willingness to work with samples of human or animal origin or environment, which may contain unknown pathogens.
- Ability and willingness to work with acids and strong bases.
