In accordance with paragraph 8(2)(a) of the Privacy Act, information or material, whether provided directly by the candidate or otherwise obtained by the selection board, used during the selection process for the purpose of assessing a candidate may be used as part of the selection review and recourse processes. Such relevant information may be provided to third parties, such as other candidates or their representatives, who have a legitimate reason to be aware of that information.
A random or top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.
At this time, there is one (1) vacancy in Edmonton, Alberta.

Candidates from outside the federal public service will be required to pay for their own travel (including travel for assessment purposes), and may be required to pay for their own relocation expenses.
This process will initially be used to staff one position on an indeterminate basis and to establish a pool of qualified candidates with various tenures (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).
Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Your résumé.
• A certificate or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in occupational health, industrial hygiene, health physics, safety management, loss control management, safety engineering or any other field relevant to the work to be performed.
• Recent* experience coordinating an occupational health and safety program (risk prevention program, job hazard analyses, workplace accident management program, etc.), policies, procedures, projects or directives.
• Recent* experience providing advice and guidance regarding the interpretation and/or application of federal or provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation including Acts, Codes, Regulations, Standards and/or industry codes of practice.
• Recent* experience in conducting investigations and inspections.
*Recent experience is normally associated with the performance of these duties as part of your major job duties for a period of three cumulative years in the last five years.
Note: Experience as a member of an occupational health and safety committee alone is insufficient.

• Certification as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector.** This includes, but is not limited to certification as a:
1. Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals;
2. Registered Occupational Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists;
3. Certified Industrial Hygienist or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist by the American Board of Hygiene or jointly with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals;
4. Certified Health and Safety Consultant by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering;
5. Public Health Inspector (Canada) by the Canadian Institute of public Health Inspectors Board of Certification.
**Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of being hired.

• Requirement to occasionally work irregular hours, overtime, sometimes on short notice.
• Requirement to travel by vehicle or aircraft to detachments within Alberta.
• Requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection, hearing protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.
Secret security clearance
• Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license or the personal mobility to the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid class 5 driver's license.
