The EL-04 duties are performed under supervision of a Group Leader and may vary based on departmental priorities. The primary function of this position is to provide essential support to research and development projects in laboratory and field environments. The key activities include assisting with the operation, maintenance, and safety of a research laboratory, all contained equipment, and an experimental vehicle. Responsibilities could involve the design, development, fabrication and/or testing of prototype electronics, as well as other devices and subsystems used to support experimental work. Other assignments could include the design and development of software applications for experimental purposes, using high-level software programming. The duties also involve frequent collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, which may entail assistance with data collection and processing, and recording scientific information pertaining to systems, equipment or devices. Writing technical documents and contributing information for preparation of scientific and technical reports will also be required.
The initial intent of this process is to offer one permanent position in Ottawa.
A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process may be created and may be used to fill similar positions with linguistic profiles (English essential, bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual imperative CBC/CBC) as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, specified period) which may vary according to the position being staffed.

Note:
1.Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject.
Experience:
- Experience designing, developing, and testing electronic systems or subsystems.
- Experience in software development using Object-Oriented Programming.
- Experience in RF signal/component analysis using laboratory instrumentation.

Asset Education:
- Courses in Radio Frequency (RF) or Microwave theory and measurement techniques.
Asset Experience:
- A minimum four years work experience as an electronics technologist.
- Experience in the use of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).
- Experience designing and constructing custom electronic circuits for testing and troubleshooting electronic systems and subsystems.
- Experience in software development for automated laboratory measurement and data acquisition.
- Experience in printed circuit board (PCB) design and assembly.
- Experience in laboratory or field trials of electronic systems.
Asset Knowledge:
- Knowledge of processes and procedures related to the operation and maintenance of a laboratory.
- Knowledge of hardware and software tools for the development of circuits within programmable logic devices, schematic capture and PCB design.
Asset Abilities and Skills:
- Evidence of writing or contributing to published documents.

Operational Requirements:
- Participation in outdoor field trials. This could include an occasional requirement to work in remote locations, on aircraft, ships or military ground vehicles.

- Occasional requirement to work overtime, especially during trials.
- Occasional requirement to lift equipment and materials that can weigh up to 25 kg.
- Occasional requirement to climb towers and negotiate physically demanding passageways.
