Manager, National Forest Inventory

The Canadian Forest Service is recruiting a new Manager for the National Forest Inventory (NFI). This is a unique opportunity to lead the multi-agency partnership and multi-disciplinary team of professionals that is responsible for monitoring the state of Canada’s forests.

Canada’s NFI is a federal/provincial/territorial government program (https://nfi.nfis.org). The NFI Project Office headquarters are located at the Pacific Forestry Centre in Victoria, British Columbia. The NFI program is delivered collaboratively by partners across Canada. Canada’s NFI is at an especially exciting point in its history, with data from the first re-measurement cycle (2008-2017) having recently been compiled and report production under way. Second re-measurement cycle (2018-2027) data collection is also under way, including field sampling, aerial survey and satellite remote sensing.

The new Manager will be challenged to meet evolving data and information needs while providing Canada with a long-term monitoring data legacy to inform sustainable forest management policy and advance forest science. The NFI Manager will be called upon to represent Canada at national and international meetings, and ensure that complex findings and issues are communicated effectively to decision-makers.

The language profile for the Manager, NFI is English Essential.

NFI partners, team members and colleagues look forward to working with the successful candidate.

Please note that first consideration will be given to members of Employment Equity Groups that self-declare.
