This is a position like no other. Not only will you be working with a diverse team in a fast-paced high volume environment, you will be leading it. Yes YOU! You and your team will be on the front lines of Health Canada’s cannabis program.
The workflow is large. The environment is highly operational. The tasks are repetitive. The challenges are many and you will need to be able to juggle them all. Anything from handling HR issues (i.e. staffing, performance management) to managing conflicting priorities, to ensuring the completion of time-sensitive work and everything in between. A big part of you your job will be to motivate your team and keep them engaged. You will have to think on your feet and have the initiative, confidence and sound judgement to problem solve, make decisions and recommend solutions or alternative courses of action. A day on the job might include:
• Preparing and providing reports (e.g. statistical data of work completed, inventory, etc.)
• Monitoring employee queues and performance, coordinating and delegating work to team
• Implementing new procedures as changes occur, integrating updates communicated by management
• Developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and working instructions
• Identifying errors and patterns of processing weakness, finding solutions
• Providing employee feedback, setting clear expectations, completing performance evaluations
• Providing clear tools and instructions to team for improved application processing
• Modeling appropriate work ethic and behaviour
• Collaborating with other teams, working independently
• Holding meetings and building team morale
• Taking initiative to solve problems and strengthen the unit
• Coordinating orientation and training of new officers
• Communicating orally or in writing with applicants
