Duties

The main tasks of the Statistics Analyst at Fisheries and Oceans Canada are as follows:
• Collect, process and quality control statistical data concerning fisheries sector industries and companies in Quebec.
• Provide for users of the data advice and training relative to the types and sources of and methods used to gather and process fisheries data.
• Set up and continually improve methods and protocols governing the gathering, processing and quality control of fisheries data.
• Participate in the activities of committees and working groups relative to methods and protocols governing the gathering, processing and quality control of statistical data.
• Provide client service (internal and external) related with statistical data.

Work environment

The Statistics Analyst will join the Regional Fisheries Management Directorate large team. The Analyst’s work is performed in a multidisciplinary environment where there are potentially interesting and challenging projects.

Intent of the process

Following this process, a pool of candidates will be created and may be used to staff current and future job opportunities with various tenures (temporary and permanent) at Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Québec City, Sept-Îles, Gaspé and the Magdalen Islands.

Graduation* with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Notes: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

*The term “degree” refers to a Bachelor’s degree as established by educational authorities.

Degree equivalency

Experience in collection, comparing and checking data.

Experience in using statistical analysis and computerized report design software programs.
