DFO is responsible for policies and programs in support of Canada's economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters; for the conservation and sustainable utilization of Canada's fisheries resources in marine and inland waters; for leading and facilitating federal policies and programs on oceans; and for safe, effective and environmentally sound marine services responsive to the needs of Canadians in a global economy.
The anticipated number of positions that may be staffed with this advertised process is one(1); however, a pool of qualified candidates will be established through this staffing process and may be used to staff similar positions with different tenures (i.e. on a term, acting or an indeterminate basis).

Successful completion of approved post-secondary education in an Engineering, Construction , Architectural Technology field or Property Management program or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Recent experience* in managing financial and material resources
Recent experience* in managing major contracts** including construction or significant repair/works management and administering the delivery of property and facilities management service through the public or private sector
Recent experience* in providing operational, technical and maintenance advice and guidance to senior management and clients on building systems.
*Recent experience is defined as experience gained within the last five years.
** Major contracts would include those contracts valued at 100,000 dollars or more and with several distinct elements (i.e. construction of a facility and its various systems)
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge of project management principles, in particular activity breakdown structures, critical path and Gantt chart (or similar) applications.
Knowledge of inspection or investigation or audit practices and techniques for conducting or administering facilities maintenance management.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to interpret architectural or engineering drawings.

Experience working with the following:
• Canadian Labour Code
• Fire Codes
• Electrical Codes

Experience using project management systems/software (such as, but not limited to, the National Project Management System (NPMS))

Reliability Status security clearance
Must be willing and able to undertake On-call or Standby like functions, and respond in urgent, emergency situations, based upon contract provisions, and in recognition that various clients operate year round on a 24/7 basis.
Willing and able to work in remote locations. Travel may include various modes of transportation, via land, sea or air or any combination thereof.
Willing and able to work in light to medium industrial facilities with associated offices, combination office and laboratory facilities and/or small buildings and adjacent to, or within a marine environment with exposure to noise, mechanical/electrical machinery, fuels/lubricants.
Possession of a valid driver’s license or mobility associated with having a driver’s licence.
