Duties

The Operational Coordinator reports to the Director General (DG) of the Coastal Region of AAFC’s Science and Technology Branch (STB). The main role of the Operational Coordinator is to collect, collate and analyze information, from a variety of sources, in order to manage the planning of ongoing operational activities such as regional staffing plans, budget planning, forecasting and fund distribution, travel and hospitality plans, IM-IT plans, equipment and infrastructure plans, etc. The Operational Coordinator researches and anticipates emerging issues that may influence operational service delivery; develops options/recommendations, provides strategic advice, and engages with the DG and Regional management on priority-setting and business planning activities.

Intent of the process

The intent is to staff 1 full time position on a permanent basis.

A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may also be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment needs.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Education
Secondary School Diploma

Degree equivalency

Experience coordinating multiple operational activities within short timeframes under the responsibility of a senior executive.

Experience providing information, advice and guidance to senior management, managers and staff on the application of administrative policies and procedures.

Experience analyzing and evaluating requests from multiple sources.

Experience analyzing complex issues, identifying and recommending solutions and advice to management.

Experience using systems designated for the collection, storage, and sharing of information.

ASSET-Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in life sciences, agriculture, economics, commerce, public or business administration, political science, sociology, statistics, law or some other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

ASSET-Experience:

Experience providing strategic advice and engaging with senior management on business planning activities.

Experience researching, monitoring, analyzing and synthesizing information on a broad range of subjects.

Experience leading and directing budget planning and coordinating forecasting exercises.
