Education
Graduation* with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a biological science;
or
Graduation* with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
*Candidates who graduate by spring 2021 may also be considered.
Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience
• Experience working in natural resource management or with environmental issues.
• Experience assessing, synthesizing or analyzing science-based information from a variety of sources.
• Experience providing or contributing to developing science-based advice and recommendations.
• Experience providing status updates, briefings or presentations.
BI-03 only:
• Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships or partnerships with stakeholders or organizations.
Note: For BI-02 and BI-03 positions, recent experience is required for all experience factors above and is defined as performing the duties within the last 5 years.
BI-03 positions: Significant experience is required for all experience factors above and is defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for a period of approximately 2 years on a full-time basis.
Education:
Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a biological science or other field related to the duties of the position.
Experience:
• Experience with Indigenous, partner or stakeholder consultations or engagement on environmental issues.
• Experience using computer software for fisheries management purposes, including databases and reporting tools.
• Experience in fisheries resource management, including identifying problems and solutions, and communicating recommendations to decision makers on fisheries issues.
• Experience with the listing or recovery of species at risk.
• Experience in marine planning or managing protected areas.
• Experience supervising staff.
• Experience managing budgets.
• Experience using spatial information visualization or analysis tools.
• Experience conducting regulatory reviews to evaluate the environmental effects of projects on aquatic species or ecosystems.
• Experience conducting field work.
• Experience with salmon management.
