Working at Parliamentary Debates
Each evening, the Translators and Translator and Language Advisors at Parliamentary Debates translate and revise the proceedings of the Senate and the House of Commons. They are language aficionados with a passion for politics and current events. Their work is demanding, but exciting!
At Parliamentary Debates, editing is a team endeavour, and all the Translator and Language Advisors work together to provide parliamentary clients with high-quality Hansard using a unified terminology. More specifically, they revise translations produced internally and externally in accordance with established standards. They are also called upon to mentor other in-house translators and, when Parliament is in recess, to translate documents for other teams within the parliamentary family.

Finally, this position qualifies for parliamentary leaves (40 days), in addition to the usual leave plan.
Important :
During the pandemic, long-distance teleworking is a possibility.
Please note, however, that the position is based in the National Capital Region to meet operational requirements. At this time, long-term teleworking at more than 100 km from the Ottawa-Gatineau area is not an option.

Translation Bureau
Founded in 1934, the Translation Bureau is a Special Operating Agency at Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC). Its mission is to collaborate with and act for all departments, boards, agencies and commissions established by Act of Parliament or appointed by order of the Governor in Council and collaborate with and act for both Houses of Parliament in all matters relating to the making and revising of translations from one language into another of documents, including correspondence, reports, proceedings, debates, bills and Acts, and to conference and sign-language interpretation, oral transliteration and terminology.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within the Translation Bureau, with various security requirements and tenures (indeterminate, term).

Education :
A bachelor's or master’s degree in translation from English to French from a recognized postsecondary institution.
Experience :
A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience translating from English into French.
Asset Experience :
- Experience coaching or offering guidance and support to students or translators in training.
- Experience in comparative revision (English to French) autonomously and full time.
- Experience managing complex translation projects.
Bilingual - Imperative (P--/PP-)
Language Proficiency for positions English to French is P--/PP-.

The selection board may, at any point during the selection process, use random selection or apply asset criteria to select candidates for the next phase of the assessment.

This process may be used for employment equity appointments.
