Temporary position for 0-6 months. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar term, casual or seasonal indeterminate positions at full or part-time hours in various locations within Fraser Stock Assessment.

Education
• Secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives; a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Experience:
• Experience conducting stock assessments of anadromous salmonids
• Experience operating and maintaining field equipment such as boats, motors, vehicles, inflatable rafts, seine nets and biological sampling and mechanical equipment
Depending on the position being staffed, any of the asset qualifications may also be deemed as an essential qualification and only candidates and persons with a priority entitlement who possess those qualifications will be considered for that specific vacancy. Education:
• Successful completion of post secondary training in fisheries or other relevant biological or natural resource science(s)
Experience:
• Significant* experience in conducting stock assessments of Fraser River salmonids
• Recent** experience in conducting stock assessments of Fraser River salmonids
• Experience directing technical support personnel
• Experience working in remote locations
• Experience in the application of acoustic enumeration techniques for assessment of Pacific salmonids
• Experience analyzing data and preparing summary reports using applicable computer software programs such as MS Excel, Access and Word
• Experience analyzing stock assessments
• Experience preparing technical or scientific reports
• Experience in working with public and private groups, First Nations and other government agencies
• Experience in data management
• Experience in database design
* ‘Significant experience’ is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed the full range of activities related to the individual asset qualification
** ‘Recent’ is defined as having occurred within the last three years

Operational Requirements:
• Working overtime, weekends, variable hours and shift work as required to meet operational needs
• Working and living in remote field camps, often under challenging conditions such as inclement weather, with limited amenities for extended periods of time
• Working in and around lakes and swiftwater environments
• Participation in periods of strenuous physical work, associated with field activities and equipment maintenance
• Flying in helicopters and small fixed-wing aircraft
• Proximity of permanent residence to various project locations within the Vancouver Coast and Mountains, Thompson-Okanagan, Cariboo-Chilcotin and Northern BC regions
Reliability Status security clearance
• A valid BC Class 5 Driver's License
• Health Canada Medical Clearance
• Valid First Aid Certification (Minimum Level 1 with CPR)
• Valid CCG Pleasure Craft Operator Card
• Working overtime, weekends, variable hours and shift work as required to meet operational needs
• Working and living in remote field camps, often under challenging conditions such as inclement weather, with limited amenities for extended periods of time
• Working in and around lakes and swiftwater environments
• Participation in periods of strenuous physical work, associated with field activities and equipment maintenance

• Attain and maintain certifications as may be required to meet Departmental health and safety standards

Purpose of the Pool: Hiring from the pool may be for Term, Casual and/or Seasonal Indeterminate employment. However, most opportunities for employment are of short duration (4-8 weeks average) and arise at short notice. Note: Persons hired for casual employment are not eligible to participate in internal recruitment processes
Inclusion in the Pool: Persons who meet the Essential Qualifications may be included in the pool
Candidates must provide proof of training and certifications requested
Removal from the Pool: A qualified candidate's name may be removed from the pool if he/she has been offered employment on three occasions and has not accepted, or if the candidate has accepted a period of employment and has not performed the duties in a satisfactory manner (as determined by the employer). A candidate may ask to have his/her name removed from the pool
Please note that achieving the cut off mark on any of the assessments used does not mean you will move forward in the selection process.
Management may decide to use a pass mark that is higher than the cut off mark on any of the evaluations used throughout the selection process. Management may also decide to use top-down selection.
All information obtained throughout the selection process, from the time of application to close of process, may be used to evaluate the candidates.
The essential qualifications and additional qualifications may be assessed using various methods of evaluation including, but not limited to, interviews, written exams, PSC tests, reference checking, simulation exercises, and role plays.
