Intent of the process

The purpose of this process is to create a pool of fully or partially qualified candidates to fill two research positions in genomics in Natural Resources Canada’ Canadian Forest Service (Laurentian Forestry Centre, Quebec City) for varying tenures (determinate or indeterminate), with bilingual imperative profile requirements (BBB/BBB).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized postsecondary institution in one of the following fields: in biology, plant physiology, plant ecophysiology, plant pathology, forestry, agriculture, environmental sciences or related science relevant to the position.

Productivity or Recognition:
Productivity or recognition is required for all positions in the Research Scientist sub-group (SE-RES) (Revised October 1, 1999).

Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:
•Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
•Operational research and scientific analysis;
•Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.

Degree equivalency

Experience
Stream 1:
- Significant* research experience in plant physiology or ecophysiology.
Stream 2:
- Significant* research experience in plant pathology.

Streams 1 and 2:
- Experience in the design and conduct of research in one or more of the following fields: tree physiology, functional tree genomics, tree-environment interactions, tree biotic or abiotic stresses, host-pest relationships, genomics of plant pathogens, other fields related to positions related to plants or forestry.
- Significant* experience of genomic and bioinformatic analysis tools and methods and their application to the study of issues specific to trees, soils, insects, forest pathogens or the environment or other related field.
- Significant* experience in the use of statistical analysis methods.
- Experience in establishing experimental devices (field or laboratory).
- Experience in developing research grant or research funding applications.

*“Significant experience” means a minimum of five (5) years of which three (3) years may have been acquired during doctoral training.

Assets
- Extensive experience ** in the design and conduct of research in one or more of the following fields: tree physiology, functional tree genomics, tree-environment interactions, tree biotic or abiotic stresses, host-pest interactions, genomics of plant pathogens.
- Extensive experience** in the preparation and microscopic analysis of biological specimens under microscopy using advanced techniques (e.g. confocal microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy)
- Extensive experience** in ecology and molecular evolution
- Extensive experience** in the use of remote sensing tools and data
- Experience in supervising or coordinating human resources work (may include students)
- Experience working on multidisciplinary or large-scale projects

**“Extensive experience” means at least one (1) year’s experience.
