Provide technical and professional advisory services, project management advice, recommendations, problem-solving regarding the planning, design, consultation with security, construction, renovation, expansion and maintenance of facilities. Complete feasibility studies, needs analysis, functional planning, and building condition reports. Mediate the resolution of conflicts between project stakeholder groups.
Is part of inspection team, and monitors building systems. Ensure all building systems and equipment are thoroughly tested and maintained to ensure efficient operation and performance. Ensure facility related and construction related legislated requirements are satisfied, e.g. Codes, Standards etc. Supervise the enforcement of all code requirements related to environmental protection, handicapped accessibility, and health and safety.
Review, plan, organize, control and implement approved annual maintenance, renovation and construction projects. Review facility designs proposed. Make expert recommendations to senior management on capital planning, budget preparation and control, and the identification of short and long term needs. Provide monthly status and progress reports. Prepare submissions and briefing notes for approval of initiatives.
Provide emergency response to facilities when emergency situations arise. Provide technical advice/direction in troubleshooting facility related maintenance issues and action plans.
Monitor computer controlled systems
The Public Health Agency of Canada's National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) provides scientific expertise and laboratory capacity for infectious disease monitoring, detection, investigation and outbreak response to support national and international public health action. Education
A degree in engineering OR post secondary diploma from an institute of technology in controls instrumentation, or an equivalent combination of occupational certification (inter provincial red seal, 3rd class power engineer or higher), training and experience.
Experience:
Experienced in programming industrial or commercial control systems.
Experienced in troubleshooting, designing, calibrating, and maintaining control instrumentation and/or building automation systems.
Experienced in project management.
Occupational Certification:
Eligible for certification as an Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM).
Eligible for certification as a technologist with Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba (CTTAM).

Experience:
Experience in programing and maintaining ABB 800XA.
Experienced in operating and maintaining network equipment, routers, servers, switches.
Experienced in troubleshooting, designing, calibrating, and maintaining control instrumentation and/or building automation systems in a laboratory, pharmaceutical, hospital or high availability production environment.
Experienced in maintaining and calibrating control instrumentation in a first class power plant.
Experienced in coordinating contractors.
Experience in HVAC systems
Experienced in maintaining and repairing control valves.
Operational Requirements:
Willing and able work under the rigours of high security bio-containment.
Willing and able to work overtime and travel for training as required.
Willing and able to work at elevated heights and wear fall protection as required.
